Name and Parents

Iorwerth Hen was the second son and successor of Owain ab Bleddyn. ^[1]

Alternatively, Burke refers to him as "Iorwerth Gam ap Owain." ^[2] Iorwerth Gam ap Owain ^[3]

Boyer refrs to him as "Yr Hen Iorwerth [Tudur Tr. 10] ap Owain p Tudur ap Bleddyn of Pengwern, Llangollen. ^[4]

The Visitation of Shropshire refers to him as Jorwerth filius et haer Odoueni ap Blethin. ^[5]

1170 Birth

Boyer estimates the birth of Iorwerth's father as 1130. His mother was born, say, 1135. Boyer suggests that Iorwerth was born, say 1170 and was of record in 1243. ^[4]

Geni presents Iorwerth Gam ap Owain as born in Llangollen. ^[6] Note that the unsourced geni record gives him a later mother (see disambiguation on his mother's profile) and later birth year.

Lands

Iorwerth Hen succeeded his father as Lord of Chirk, Nantheudwy, and Maelor Isaf. ^[1]

Swydd y Waun was the name of a cantref in the medieval Kingdom of Powys. It contained the commotes of Cynllaith and Nanheudwy. ^[7]

Marriage

Iorwerth Gam ap Owain married Angharad ferch Gruffudd [Tudur Tr. 22]. ^[4] Angharad was daughter and co-heir of Griffith ap Mellir ap Elidyr, of the Tribe of the Lord of Hereford, ^[2]

Iorwerth Hen married Angharad, the eldest of the four daughters and co-heiresses of Gruffudd, the third son of Meilir Eyton, Lord of Eyton, Erlisham, and Borasham. Her mother was Angharad, daughter and heiress of Llywelyn ab Meurig ab Caradawg ab Iestyn ab Gwrgant, Prince of Glamorgan, founder of one of the five royal tribes of Wales. ^[1]

Iorwerth Hen, Lord of Chirk, Nanheudwy, and Maelor Isaf, married Angharad, the eldest of the four daughters and coheiresses of Gruffydd, the third son of Meilir Eyton, Lord of Eyton or Eutyn. Her mother was Angharad, daughter and heiress of llewelyn ab Meurig ab Caradog ab Iestyn ab Gwgant, Prince of Glamorgan. ^[8]

The Visitation states that Jerwerth filius et haer. Odoueni ap Blethin married Ankareta fil. et haer. Gruffith ap Will'm ap Ellider. ^[5]

Death

A Geni file suggests that he died in 1236. Based on a birth of 1170, he would have been 66 at his death. ^[6]

He was succeeded by his eldest son. ^[8]

Issue

His issue, besides a daughter Dyddgu, was Iorwerth Fychan. ^[1]

Iorwerth was father of Iorwerth Vychan ap Iorwerth Gam. ^[2]
